Resumo
Em Portugal, durante a Guerra da Restauração (1640-1668) foi estabelecida uma rede estruturada de sistemas fortificados abaluartados ao longo da costa atlântica e fronteira terrestre Partindo desta circunstância, o campo da investigação, balizado entre 1621-1763, recai sobre o projeto do edificado enquanto mediação entre os modelos e procedimentos teóricos expostos pelos tratados de fortificação (manuais da “arte” de fortificação) e, por outro lado, a confrontação dos desenhadores com as circunstância reais (preexistências, configuração do território, práticas construtivas e exigência bélicas) da sua implantação, construção e implementação, verificadas através dos vestígios construídos no Vale do Rio Minho.

Tiago Rodrigues é Arquiteto e mestre na área da Arquitetura Desconstrutivista pela UBI – Universidade da Beira Interior, tendo também estudado na Escuela Técnica
Superior de Arquitectura de la Universidad De Valladolid.
Atualmente é estudante do Doutoramento em Arquitetura na EAAD – Escola de
Arquitetura, Arte e Design, da Universidade do Minho e bolseiro da FCT –
Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia.

Abstract
During the Restoration War (1640-1668) in Portugal, a network of Fortified Systems was created in response to the war between the Kingdom of Portugal and the Crown of Castile. Based on this circumstance, the field of research, set between 1621-1763, focuses on the design of buildings as a mediation between the theoretical models and procedures set out in fortification treatises (manuals of the "art" of fortification) and, on the other hand, the confrontation between the designers and the real circumstances (pre-existences, configuration of the territory, construction practices and war requirements) of their implantation, construction and implementation, verified through the remains built in the Minho River Valley.


Bio
Tiago Rodrigues is an architect and holds a master's degree in Deconstructivist Architecture from UBI – University of Beira Interior, having also studied at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the University of Valladolid.
He is currently a PhD candidate in Architecture at EAAD – School of Architecture,
Art and Design, University of Minho and FCT Grant Holder – Science and
