Resumo
O estilo arquitetónico dos templos da Igreja Ortodoxa Oriental no século XX, no Líbano, que já fez parte do Império Bizantino, sofreu pequenas alterações desde a queda do Império. Entre o Rito Bizantino e os elementos - especificamente os arquitetónicos - não existe uma correspondência simples, clara e direta. É praticamente impossível compreender a lógica por detrás da liturgia, das artes e da arquitetura sem um contexto histórico da Igreja. Tanto a liturgia como a arquitetura têm "uma lógica interna", e o seu desenvolvimento ocorre a ritmos distintos. A utilização deste estilo pela Igreja Ortodoxa no século XX está relacionada com uma matriz complexa que começa com a Tradição e passa pela prosperidade que o Império deu à Igreja nos primeiros séculos para terminar com a situação sociopolítica complexa do Líbano.

Bio
Bouchra Tohme é aluna de doutoramento em cultura arquitetónica, na Escola de Arquitetura, Arte e Design, da Universidade do Minho, fazendo parte da equipa de investigação do Lab2PT desde 2019. Obteve o seu Mestrado em Arquitetura da Universidade Libanesa-Branch III. O seu segundo mestrado foi em Urbanismo pela Universidade Libanesa, com uma tese sobre agricultura urbana. Trabalhou em diferentes empresas entre o Líbano e os Emirados em Arquitetura e Planeamento Urbano.


Abstract
The architectural style of the Eastern Orthodox Church temples in the twentieth century, in Lebanon, which was once part of the Byzantine Empire, has had minor changes since the fall of the Empire. Between the Byzantine Rite and the elements—mostly architectural—there is no simple, clear, and direct correspondence. It is quite impossible to understand the rationale behind the liturgy, arts, and architecture without a historical context of the Church. Both liturgy and architecture have "an internal logic", and their development is at different rates. The use of this style by the Orthodox Church in the twentieth century is related to a complex matrix that starts with Tradition and goes through the prosperity that the Empire gave the Church in the first centuries to end with the complex sociopolitical situation of Lebanon.


Bio
Bouchra Tohme is a PhD candidate in architectural culture, at the School of Architecture, Art and Design, of the University of Minho, being a part of the Lab2PT research team since 2019. She received her Master in Architecture from the Lebanese University-Branch III. Her second Master was in Urban Planning from the Lebanese University with a thesis about urban agriculture. She worked at different companies between Lebanon and the Emirates in Architecture and urban planning.
